Go Green In Your bed for World Bamboo Day Sept 18, 2017

BedVoyage wants you to “Go Green in Your Bed!” in honor of World Bamboo Day!

World Bamboo Day was established on September 18 at the 8th World Bamboo Congress held in Bangkok in 2009 and declared by the Thai Royal Forest Department. People and businesses from around the world use this day to raise awareness of the benefits of bamboo and to promote its use in everyday products. On this day each year, its celebration has included bamboo planting ceremonies, 5K races, various contests and other kinds of celebrations around the world.

TOP 10 WAYS BAMBOO CAN SAVE THE PLANET!

1. Bamboo is a renewable resource. Bamboo can be harvested in one to five years. Other woods can take at least forty years to mature before being harvested. Worldwide, nearly 1 million acres of timber are lost each week due to deforestation. By substituting versatile bamboo for hardwood, it offers a chance to drastically reduce that number and protect the remaining forests.

2. Bamboo creates very little waste. Practically every part of the plant is used to make a wide variety of goods. From food, to fabric, to furniture, every part of the plant can be used.

3. Bamboo does not need fertilizer, pesticides, or herbicides. Bamboo is distinctly different, in that it requires no agricultural chemicals to flourish, unlike cotton. However, cotton is one of the most agriculturally sprayed yields in the world and rapidly exhausts the nutrients in the soil.

4. Bamboo absorbs greenhouse gases. Bamboo releases 35% more oxygen into the atmosphere than an equal stand of forest and absorbs more carbon dioxide.

5. Bamboo’s amazing growth rate. Some types of bamboo grow more than three feet each day! There’s no other plant on planet earth that grows at a faster rate. When harvested, it will grow new shoots from its widespread root system without the need for cultivating or replanting.

5 More Ways Bamboo is Amazing!

1. Bamboo is versatile in manufacturing. For almost any use, bamboo could replace the use of wood. Also, bamboo fibers are much stronger than wood fibers and less likely to warp from changing moisture or heat changes.

2. Bamboo harvesting prevents soil erosion. Bamboo roots remain in place after harvesting, and help to retain nutrients for the next yield. Additional benefit, the remaining roots also help prevent erosion of the soil or hillside.

3. Bamboo provides job opportunities. Bamboo production and the manufacturing of bamboo products offers job opportunities in areas that need social and economic stability.

4. Bamboo grows in a diverse weather conditions. Bamboo can grow in parched regions where droughts have caused other crops to fail. The remaining root systems help to preserve much needed moisture in the soil. Bamboo will grow in high or low elevations, and from wetlands to normal/dry soil conditions. Bamboo thrives in a wide range soil and weather conditions.

5. Bamboo – Optimism and cultural cooperation. The growing popularity of bamboo products provides an opening for diverse cultures through trade and collaboration that benefits everyone.
